Chakras: What Are They, What Do They Do, and What Is Their Purpose?
What Are Chakras?
Chakras are energy centres in the body that help move and balance spiritual, emotional, and physical energy.
The word chakra comes from Sanskrit and means “wheel” or “circle”, because each chakra spins like a little wheel of light.
We have seven main chakras, and each one is linked to different parts of your body, emotions, and soul journey.
What Do They Do?
Chakras act like energy gateways, helping life-force energy (sometimes called prana or chi) flow through you.
They connect your mind, body, and spirit, allowing you to feel clear, balanced, and vibrant.
When chakras are open and aligned, you feel energised, confident, calm, and inspired.
If chakras are blocked or overactive, you might feel tired, anxious, stuck, or unwell—emotionally or physically.
Purpose of the Chakras
The chakras help you:
Understand and feel your emotions clearly
Stay connected to your soul and purpose
Heal inner wounds and grow spiritually
Bring balance between your thoughts, body, and higher guidance
Each chakra supports a part of your life—from survival and creativity to love, truth, and higher awareness

How Chakras Work with Energy
🔹 What Kind of Energy Do Chakras Use
Chakras receive, process, and distribute universal life force energy—also known as:
- Prana (in Sanskrit)
- Chi or Qi (in Chinese medicine)
- Spirit or Source energy (in spiritual teachings)
This energy comes from all around us:
– The air we breathe
– The Earth beneath us
– Sunlight
– Cosmic or divine frequencies
– Thoughts, emotions, and even interactions with others
Each chakra is tuned to specific types of energy based on its function. For example:
- The Root chakra pulls in grounding energy from the Earth
- The Heart chakra opens to loving and emotional energy
- The Crown chakra receives high-frequency spiritual energy from higher realms
What Happens to the Energy After It Enters the Chakras?
Once energy flows into a chakra, several things can happen:
🔸 1. Filtering & Interpretation
The chakra acts like an energy filter or processor. It translates subtle vibrations into something the body and mind can use—for emotional awareness, physical health, or spiritual insight.
Example: If you receive heart energy, your Heart chakra might convert it into feelings of peace, compassion, or the urge to forgive.
🔸 2. Distribution Through the Energy System
Processed energy is then shared throughout your system, flowing into:
- The aura (your energetic field)
- The nervous system (impacting emotions and physical responses)
- Organs and cells linked to each chakra
- Other chakras, creating balance or exchange
The chakras work together as a team—if one becomes blocked or overactive, it affects the flow of energy in the whole system.
🔸 3. Transformation into Action or Feeling
After energy is received and integrated, it often becomes part of:
- Your mood or emotional state
- Your intuition or creative idea
- A new thought pattern or decision
- Physical healing or sensation
- A spiritual experience or awakening
Energy doesn’t just stay inside—it becomes how you think, feel, act, and shine into the world.
🔸 4. Release or Expression
Some of the energy is eventually:
- Expressed outward (through words, love, creativity, or movement)
- Stored (if not fully processed)
- Released (through tears, breath, movement, or intention)
This is why energy practices like breathwork, yoga, and meditation are important—they help complete the cycle and keep energy flowing.
✨ In Summary:
- Chakras receive life-force energy from the Earth, universe, and interactions
- They filter, transform, and distribute this energy to your body, mind, and aura
- The energy becomes part of your feelings, health, choices, and spiritual awareness
- It can be expressed, stored, or released, depending on how balanced your system is.
